Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens endorses Republican Mike Rogers in Senate race
Briefing by News4U · First published
Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for Senate on Sunday, appearing with him at a Detroit church after a feud over an outside ad blaming Israel for high grocery prices. Stevens said she did not belong in Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the move “a despicable betrayal,” and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said Stevens was no longer a party member. President Trump praised Stevens at an Iowa rally and repeated false claims that El-Sayed is a “jihadist.” A New York Times/Siena poll showed El-Sayed leading Rogers 53-42 percent, and his campaign raised $1.2 million in the four hours after the endorsement.
