Stablecoin transfers hit $891B in Q3 as banks test adoption
Briefing by News4U · First published
Coinbase-commissioned report shows quarterly stablecoin transfers quadrupled since 2023, with 73% occurring outside US banking hours.
Cointelegraph reports that stablecoin transfers reached $891 billion in the third quarter of 2026, more than quadrupling since early 2023, with $400 million moved hourly on average. Seven of the ten largest US banks have tested stablecoins or tokenized deposits, while 30% of mid-market firms conducting cross-border business are now using or piloting stablecoins, up from 10% in 2024. The report estimates that shifting 80% of international transactions to stablecoins could add $155 billion to global GDP annually and free up $3 trillion in bank liquidity, though researchers note these are hypothetical projections and widespread adoption could reduce bank lending. [1]
