Sudanese returnees face destroyed homes and scarce services in Khartoum
Briefing by News4U · First published
Al Jazeera reported that millions of Sudanese are returning to Khartoum state after SAF victories, yet many find homes destroyed and looted, with limited access to water, electricity and jobs. As of 30 September, IOM recorded 5.27 million returnees across nine states, including 2.5 million in Khartoum state per UNHCR’s August 2026 assessment. Returnees such as Mohamed Mahdi Makki Farah and Abubakr Ishaq Hamed Ibrahim described sleeping on floors, paying high rents and relying on casual work or aid. Khartoum state authorities announced fuel supplies for public transport on Saturday. [1]
