Three foreign nationals — Jacob Soall, Sharon Hazan and Guy Sheetrit — were arrested and charged with using AI to impersonate corporate CEOs and attorneys to steal over $100m, according to an indictment newly unsealed by the US Department of Justice. A Southern District of New York press release said they used AI to alter voices and images of executives and lawyers so employees would wire large payments, with alleged losses exceeding $129m from firms including US hospital systems, a Rhode Island bank, a Massachusetts mutual fund, a Florida pet food company and a UK tech firm. Soall and Hazan were arrested in Spain and Sheetrit in the UK; they face wire-fraud conspiracy, money-laundering conspiracy and aggravated identity theft charges. [1]
