Residents in Southaven say Elon Musk's xAI is offering to purchase hundreds of homes near its data centers if owners agree not to join a lawsuit over power-plant noise.
People in Southaven, Mississippi, say real estate agents working for Elon Musk's xAI have gone door to door offering to buy homes on the condition that owners do not join a lawsuit over noise from a nearby power plant feeding the company's data centers. [1]
A realtor told one resident the target is to purchase 418 homes in the Colonial Hills area, with 18 owners already agreeing to sell, according to a recording heard by The Guardian. xAI did not respond to questions about the numbers; county records show five neighborhood homes have been bought by subsidiary MZX since 9 October. Three locals filed a suit in June over near-constant noise, vibrations and other nuisance-level harms from the nearby xAI power plant. Locals and the mayor say purchased homes would house xAI staff as the company expands, with three of its datacenters springing up in Southaven and adjoining Memphis. [1]
