Democratic socialist Nithya Raman wins Los Angeles mayoral race over Karen Bass
Briefing by News4U · First published
Nithya Raman was elected mayor of Los Angeles in a narrow win over incumbent Karen Bass, The Guardian reported Thursday. Returns showed Raman leading with just over 52% of the votes to Bass’s 48%, and Bass called Raman to concede on Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported according to The Guardian. Raman, a progressive urban planner on the city council since 2020, rose in the polls over the summer with support from the Los Angeles chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America after entering the race hours before the filing deadline. The local contest came as Democrats elsewhere won control of Congress in the 2026 midterms. [1]
