Democrat Roy Cooper flips North Carolina US Senate seat
Briefing by News4U · First published
Democrat Roy Cooper has won North Carolina’s US Senate race, defeating Republican Michael Whatley, the former Republican National Committee chair, Al Jazeera and The Guardian reported. The moderate former two-term governor is the first Democrat elected to one of the state’s two Senate seats since 2008, and voters sent a Democrat to the chamber for the first time in 10 years, succeeding outgoing Republican Thom Tillis, who did not seek a third term. Cooper had consistently led Whatley, and Republicans pulled funding from Whatley’s campaign. [1] [2]
