Abuse in media industry probably still happening, Lisa Nandy says

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that abuse in the media industry is probably still happening, as organisations are not doing enough to protect women, after Russell Brand's conviction. "Hand on heart, I can't say to you as the culture secretary that this is not happening today. In fact, if I had to wager, I would say it is," she said. She said "many people" in the industry had alleged that things had happened to them, and that little had changed in how media and politics treat women who come forward. Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault after a four-week trial over allegations spanning 1999 to 2009. Nandy called the BBC an "exemplar" for joining the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority. [1]
