Judge dismisses charges against FBI officials in Hunter Biden case

US Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui on Monday dismissed criminal charges against former FBI officials Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides, who were accused of making false statements to Congress in 2023 about the bureau's role in examining Hunter Biden's laptop, The Guardian and Al Jazeera report. Faruqui said prosecutors failed to show probable cause that the two knowingly lied, criticized "critical mistakes" and a rush ahead of the midterm elections, and said the episode "cannot be described as anything other than weaponization."
