Israel's Herzog begins coalition talks after election deadlock

Briefing by News4U · First published

Israel's President Isaac Herzog has begun consultations with political parties on whom to task with forming a new coalition, after receiving official results of last week's general election that he said had no clear winner, the BBC reported. Herzog told party leaders that "not every commitment and promise can be fulfilled" if they want to avoid another election. Neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc nor rival Gadi Eisenkot's secured a majority in the 120-seat Knesset. [1]
