Albania's Rama says Serbia's new leaders unlikely to recognise Kosovo

Briefing by News4U · First published

Today Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama told the Euronews Enlargement Summit that a change of leadership in Serbia is unlikely to soften Belgrade's opposition to recognising Kosovo, a major obstacle to Serbia's EU accession. Rama said the Student List that won Serbia's recent election remains unwilling to discuss Kosovo and is "completely close towards recognising Kosovo, so this means that the music in Belgrade will not change." He also said Serbia must deserve EU belonging by delivering in full what is non-negotiable, criticising its reluctance to align with EU policies including sanctions against Russia, while reaffirming Albania's aim to conclude accession talks by the end of 2027.
