UK and Germany to jointly develop military AI, Streeting says

Briefing by News4U · First published

British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said on Monday that the UK and Germany plan to jointly test, develop and eventually introduce artificial intelligence in their armed forces, expanding the Cyber Lighthouse cybersecurity project to cover AI. Writing in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ahead of Berlin talks with German counterpart Boris Pistorius, he said the step would deepen cooperation and help keep pace with those who seek to harm them. Government and industry representatives are due to meet in spring 2027 to shape the plan; no specific AI systems, programmes or budgets have been announced. Streeting also said German companies have committed £800 million (about €956 million) to the UK defence industry since a 2024 defence pact. [1]
