Germany and France brace for Halloween weekend youth protests

Briefing by News4U · First published

Germany and France are bracing for Halloween-weekend protests as about 150,000 people have registered to demonstrate in about 30 German cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt and Cologne, while French authorities deploy 70,000 police officers nationwide, Al Jazeera reported, citing AFP. The German marches are led by a group called “GenZ regelt!” (“Gen Z has got this!”), citing high living costs, poorly maintained schools and spending cuts. Luxury shops have boarded windows in German cities; in France more than 40 Paris metro stations will close, face coverings are banned at protests, and the interior minister has warned of a “very high risk” of disorder on a third consecutive weekend of youth-led unrest.
