Mistral releases open weights for Large 4 AI model focused on coding and cyber defence

Mistral has released the weights for its latest large flagship AI model, Mistral Large 4 (ML4), nicknamed “Le Chonk”, claiming gains in coding and cyber defence as Europe seeks alternatives to US and Chinese technology. The French company says the open-weight model gives enterprises and governments frontier cyber-defence capabilities they can fully own and control, including detecting, analysing and responding to cyberthreats across code and IT infrastructure, and can be run on an organisation’s own computers and servers rather than only via a hosted service.
