Zelenskyy hopes Democratic Congress will bring more U.S. help for Ukraine
Briefing by News4U · First published
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Democratic gains in the U.S. midterm elections could bring more help for Kyiv, telling German broadcaster ZDF that Democrats speak clearly about supporting Ukraine and renewing ties between the United States and Europe. He said strong congressional financial or military assistance, matching Europe's example, would positively affect Russian President Vladimir Putin. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas likewise hoped the new Congress would keep supporting Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz doubted President Donald Trump would change course after largely bypassing Congress.
