Robinhood CEO Tenev says US tokenization uncertainty deters serious assets

Briefing by News4U · First published

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said temporary SEC tokenization relief is a positive step but that longer-term rulemaking or legislation is still needed before investors commit substantial assets onchain.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said uncertainty over how long US tokenization rules will last could stop investors from putting substantial assets into tokenized markets, even after the SEC opened a temporary path for onchain stock trading this year. [1]

On Robinhood’s third-quarter earnings call, Tenev welcomed the SEC’s innovation exemption but said further rulemaking or legislation is needed for longer-term certainty. He said the company hopes to share more on its own US tokenization plans soon. [1]

Binance Research has projected the tokenized equities market could grow to $349 billion by 2030 in a base case, from $4.43 billion as of Sept. 15. Tenev’s remarks came as Robinhood reported cryptocurrency revenue fell 55% year on year to $120 million in the third quarter. [1]
