UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said veterans should not sleep rough this Christmas. Downing Street said he will write to English councils on 11 November, urging them to plan accommodation for veterans sleeping rough before the festive period. In a Saturday statement reported by the BBC, Burnham said those who served "should never lack a roof over their head." He will ask councils to use part of an additional £874m already announced to tackle homelessness specifically for housing veterans, and an extra £8.7m will go to eight UK organisations, including Veteran Housing Scotland, Launchpad and SSAFA, for veterans with complex needs.
