Oman rescues 25 from burning oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz

Briefing by News4U · First published

Oman rescued 25 crew from a burning crude oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, the Omani Maritime Security Centre said, identifying the Panamanian-flagged merchant ship as the RITI, which MarineTraffic listed as a crude tanker. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said three oil-carrying vessels were halted after attempting unauthorised passages and reported that a supertanker carrying more than two million barrels of oil exploded and caught fire; it was unclear whether that vessel was the RITI. Iran's navy said it destroyed an unmanned enemy craft east of the strait, while US Central Command chief Brad Cooper said primary transit routes had been cleared of Iranian sea mines. [1]
