Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch urges French lawmakers to reject Darcos AI copyright bill

Briefing by News4U · First published

Today Mistral AI co-founder and chief executive Arthur Mensch said on X that the company is developing 1 GW of capacity in the coming years, essentially in Europe and largely in France, and that France's proposed Darcos bill weighs directly on that choice, calling on lawmakers not to adopt the text. He wrote that a presumption of use triggered by a simple indication would reverse the burden of proof and force companies to expose industrial secrets to show a work was not used among billions of words. Mensch said this legal risk would first fall on French actors choosing whether to build a data center in Essonne or outside France, and he backed a Europe-wide contribution based on the turnover of all AI providers operating commercially in Europe, including foreign ones.
