Eisenkot says he is open to including Netanyahu as he starts forming a government
Briefing by News4U · First published
Gadi Eisenkot said on Sunday he was open to including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a coalition and appealed to Netanyahu's Likud party and far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's Religious Zionist Party to join a government under Eisenkot's leadership, The Guardian and Al Jazeera reported. At a ceremony in Jerusalem, President Isaac Herzog formally tasked the former military chief with forming a government. Eisenkot called for a national emergency government, saying Israel was approaching a "point of no return." His alliance won 48 of the Knesset's 120 seats in the October election, while Netanyahu's bloc won 53, leaving both short of a majority. [1] [2]
