US midterm voters reject data centre projects in all but one of 41 ballot measures
Briefing by News4U · First published
Al Jazeera reported that voters rejected data centre development in all but one of the 41 ballot measures on the issue in Tuesday’s US midterm elections, according to Data Centers on the Ballot, an election-monitoring project run by Redbud Consulting. Only Harwood, North Dakota, a town of fewer than 800 people, voted against limits on such projects. The Pew Research Center estimated as of April that the United States already had 3,000 data centres, with more than 1,500 others in progress, a boom linked to artificial intelligence that analysts say has become entangled with cost-of-living and job-security concerns.
