New Zealand National Party narrowly ahead of Labour in early election count
Briefing by News4U · First published
DW reported that preliminary results released shortly after New Zealand polling stations closed at 7 p.m. local time (0600 GMT) showed the ruling center-right National Party on nearly 31% and the opposition Labour Party on almost 30%. DW said the centrist Opportunity Party has also been put by polls at more than 5%, the threshold needed to gain seats in parliament without an electoral candidate win, and that final results are expected to be released on November 27. DW said almost 1.7 million of the country's 3.8 million eligible voters had already cast their ballots by Thursday. [1]
