Japan reportedly considers uniform certification for driverless vehicles

Briefing by News4U · First published

Japan is considering uniform safety certification for L4 and L5 driverless vehicles without steering wheels or pedals, ITHome reported, citing Nikkei Asia. A transport-ministry working group is due to discuss the proposal on November 4, with the new standards planned for vehicles produced from December. Passenger vehicles would still undergo crash testing with dummies. Freight vehicles could be exempt from that test, but manufacturers would have to ensure they can avoid accidents when their systems fail. [1]
