Vinted and eBay could be included in UK under-16 social media ban, minister says

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that the government is "looking seriously" at including Vinted and eBay in the UK's social media ban for under-16s "in order to keep children safe." The ban is set to come into force in March next year, with children barred from platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. The BBC reported that her comments followed a Sunday Times report that the ban was being expanded to those second-hand marketplaces over fears that messaging functions allowed strangers to groom children, and that Depop and Facebook Marketplace might also be included. eBay and Vinted both say their users must be at least 18 years old, and Vinted has grown to 17 million UK users.
