Apple announces first touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED display

Briefing by News4U · First published

Apple unveiled its first MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen at a Wednesday event, starting at $2,899 for the 14-inch model, with preorders open ahead of a November 6 release.

Apple announced an all-new MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen at its “Pro and tell” event on Wednesday, The Verge reported. The laptop starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model or $3,399 for the 16-inch version, and is available to preorder ahead of a November 6 release. [1]

Apple calls the tandem OLED screen a “PROLED XDR” display, with up to 2,000 nits peak SDR brightness, up to a 120Hz refresh rate and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The machines use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, not the M6 chip on other MacBook Pros announced this week, and add a Dynamic Island plus a returning glowing Apple logo on the lid. [1]

Apple says the touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, which it claims reduces latency. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model 4 pounds; both are slightly thinner than prior models, The Verge said. [1]
