Salon, pioneering online magazine, shuts down after 31 years
Briefing by News4U · First published
Salon, one of the early internet’s pioneering general-interest publications, said on Thursday it is ceasing publication after 31 years. Founded in San Francisco in 1995, the outlet built its reputation on politics, arts and culture coverage and announced the closure in an unsigned post just weeks before its November 20 anniversary. Salon said the business realities of independent digital journalism have changed profoundly and that its publishing model is no longer sustainable. Chief content officer Erin Keane said the editorial archive will stay live for now. [1] [2]
