Alaska governor orders probe of Peltola campaign over ballot name scheme

Briefing by News4U · First published

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy said he is directing the Department of Public Safety to investigate whether Democrat Mary Peltola’s Senate campaign violated state law after a New York Times report alleged staff and Democratic aides recruited people named Dan Sullivan to run against Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan and confuse voters. Dunleavy wrote that the report “reveals disturbing new evidence of an organized effort to manipulate Alaska’s elections” and that anyone found to have broken the law must be held accountable. President Donald Trump has separately called for Peltola to be removed from the ballot and prosecuted. Peltola’s campaign had previously denied encouraging another Dan Sullivan to run, according to earlier local reporting cited by The Guardian. [1]
