Wizz Air London–Sofia flight diverted to Budapest after bomb threat

Briefing by News4U · First published

A Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Sofia diverted to Budapest on Monday after a bomb threat was received during the flight, the Hungary-based airline said in a statement to Euronews. The aircraft landed safely at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, where authorities checked the plane and passengers; Wizz Air said it was cooperating with investigators and that passenger and crew safety remained its highest priority. Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi said a military Gripen jet scrambled to escort the aircraft and later returned to Kecskemét while police took over. Flight-tracking data showed the diversion began while the plane was over Bosnia and Herzegovina. [1]
