Labour ends power-sharing with Greens in 11 councils over Zionism policy

Briefing by News4U · First published

Labour will stop cooperating with the Green Party in 11 councils across England after an ultimatum for local Greens to disown a conference policy stating that “Zionism is racism,” The Guardian and BBC reported on Monday. Party chair Bridget Phillipson said the motion “crosses a line” and Labour cannot work with any party that supports it at any level of government. Labour said agreements existed in 18 authorities and that 11 had not met its conditions, naming councils including Sheffield, Warwick, Lewes, Arun and West Suffolk; deals remain where Green groups condemned the motion, including Broadland and West Sussex. The Greens said they were “hugely disappointed,” arguing the move jeopardises progressive local partnerships. [1] [2]
