Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called defeated rival Flávio Bolsonaro’s reported departure for the United States “shameful,” after Argentina confirmed the senator’s family crossed into Argentina and flew toward Ecuador, The Guardian reported.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva condemned far-right senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s reported flight from Brazil after Sunday’s presidential election loss, calling the act “shameful,” The Guardian reported Wednesday. [1]
At a birthday event in Brasília, Lula said Brazil was the Bolsonaro family’s “second homeland” and accused them of “licking the boots of the US.” He added: “He who owes nothing, fears nothing. A citizen who sneaks out of his country owes something. The act of leaving Brazil is shameful.” [1]
Argentina confirmed Bolsonaro, his wife and two daughters crossed into Argentina late Tuesday and boarded a private flight to Ecuador. A U.S. State Department spokesperson said the family would get visas to enter the United States; Lula’s Workers’ Party lawmakers asked Brazil’s supreme court to seek his arrest and an Interpol Red Notice.
