Lebanon cuts power to 100 public bodies amid deepening electricity crisis

Briefing by News4U · First published

Al Jazeera reported that Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water has begun shutting down electricity to approximately 100 public institutions with unpaid bills, a move ordered by Energy Minister Joe Saddi that took effect on Monday. Saddi, a member of the Lebanese Forces party, is boycotting cabinet meetings to demand more funding for the electricity sector and has been joined by three LF colleagues. The cuts come as state power supplies have fallen to two-to-four hours a day in Beirut, with analysts citing corruption and outdated infrastructure as core problems. [1]
