Briefing by News4U · First published
BBC Business reports that the UK and EU have agreed a draft deal to remove post-Brexit checks on food and agriculture exports, with the 200-page SPS agreement text now circulated to EU nations for consideration at a meeting on Wednesday. The deal would eliminate Export Health Certificates, Phytosanitary certificates, inspector fees and other checks, while UK exports of fresh sausages, burgers, shellfish and seed potatoes to the EU would resume. The government claims the UK economy will eventually see £5.1bn worth of annual benefits. The UK will commit to dynamic alignment with EU regulations on plant, animal and food trade standards. [1]
