Briefing by News4U · First published

The Guardian reported that Canada has joined a coalition of countries refusing to play ice hockey against Russia over the war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Mark Carney said no Russian or Belarusian athletes will compete for their countries in Canada while the war continues. The decision follows a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that lifted an IIHF ban on Russian teams. Federations from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Latvia and the Czech Republic have also announced they will not play Russia. Ukraine’s foreign minister thanked the nations for their stance. [1]
