Home Office faces Windrush accusations over Turkish ECAA refusals

Briefing by News4U · First published

The Guardian reports a sharp rise in rejected Turkish ECAA applications since September 2025, with David Lammy citing errors and policy shifts that devastated applicants. Since the start of the year, hundreds of ECAA holders have been refused permanent residency, while successful applications have plummeted from several thousand to a few hundred. Refusal letters contain basic errors, made-up requirements and disregard of human tragedies. One woman was denied because she began cancer treatment in Turkey on medical advice, and another was told his window-cleaning business was not legitimate because he lacked a social media presence.
