China criticizes US Treasury's expanded investment curbs on China

Briefing by News4U · First published

Beijing condemned the US Treasury's proposed rules that broaden investment restrictions on China, calling them discriminatory and a violation of summit consensus.

On 23 October the US Treasury released a new draft rule expanding investment restrictions on China and opened it for public comment. Wall Street CN reported that China’s Ministry of Commerce said the measure discriminates against China, broadens the scope and intensity of curbs, violates the consensus reached by the two heads of state, disrupts normal business cooperation and undermines the international trade order. The ministry expressed serious concern and firm opposition, said it will monitor developments and reserves the right to take countermeasures. It urged Washington to respect market rules, stop politicising trade and creating a sound environment for bilateral commerce. [1]
