Thailand risks deporting two more Uyghur men to China

Briefing by News4U · First published

The Guardian reported that two Uyghur men transferred to a Thai immigration detention centre fear imminent deportation to China, where they say they would be “like a slave” and face disappearance, following the 2025 forced return of 40 others whose whereabouts remain unknown. The men had been serving a seven-year prison sentence for offences related to an attempted escape from immigration detention in January 2020. They were part of a group of more than 200 Uyghur men, women and children who were apprehended by Thai police in 2014 near the border with Malaysia after they fled from China. [1]
