Trump names Stephen Miller White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles

Briefing by News4U · First published

US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Stephen Miller, currently Deputy Chief of Staff and homeland security advisor, will become White House chief of staff on Monday, November 9, 2026, replacing Susie Wiles, who will move to the Trump Political Operation. Miller, 41, is the architect of the administration’s mass deportation programme and has been a close aide for more than a decade. Democrats including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Dick Durbin, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senator Chris Van Hollen condemned the appointment, calling Miller a “hatemonger,” “xenophobe” and “vile.” Some Republicans, including Representative Marlin Stutzman, also criticised the move.
