Democrats win US Senate and House in 2026 midterms, ending Republican trifecta

Briefing by News4U · First published

Democrats regained control of the US Senate and House in the 2026 midterm elections, securing at least 51 Senate seats and 228 House seats, ending the Republican trifecta achieved in 2024. The party flipped Senate seats in Kansas, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina and South Carolina, with notable wins by Annie Andrews in South Carolina, Roy Cooper in North Carolina, James Talarico in Texas, Sherrod Brown in Ohio and Adam Hamilton in Kansas. Democrats also flipped governor’s offices in Texas, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and Nevada. President Trump accepted the results, saying he was “absolutely willing to accept” them. Several races remain uncalled, including Alaska and Mississippi Senate contests. [1] [2] [3] [4]
