ITHome reports a Chinese team achieved a 3.2 Pb/s single-fiber bidirectional real-time transmission record using 24-core fiber.

ITHome reports that the China Information and Communication Technologies Group’s National Key Laboratory of Optical Communication Technology and Networks, together with Pengcheng Laboratory and FiberHome Fujikura, completed a 3.2 Pb/s multi-core fiber bidirectional real-time transmission trial, setting a new world record. [1]

The system used a 10.3 km 24-core fiber with S+C+L band multiplexing and space-division multiplexing, supporting thousands of parallel channels and delivering 32 times the capacity of conventional single-core fiber. [1]
