The tenth Lancet Countdown report finds heat-related deaths rose 36% since the Paris Agreement, with over 70% of 2023’s 710,000 heat deaths linked to human-caused warming.

ITHome reports that the tenth Lancet Countdown report, released Wednesday, shows climate-related health threats are worsening faster than a decade ago, with heat-related deaths rising nearly 36% from 2016-2023 compared with 2006-2015. [1]

In 2023 alone, heat exposure was linked to about 710,000 deaths worldwide, over 70% of which researchers attribute to human-caused warming; the cumulative toll from 2016-2023 approaches 3 million. [1]

The report also notes that 52% of global land experienced at least one month of extreme drought in 2025, the second-highest level on record, while 56 of 194 WHO member states now have national climate-health adaptation plans, up from 14 in 2015. [1]
