Victoria’s Supreme Court dismissed Andre McKechnie’s lawsuit, ruling the prison ban on Vegemite does not breach his human rights.

The Guardian reported that Victoria’s Supreme Court dismissed Andre McKechnie’s lawsuit against the state corrections department, ruling that the long-standing ban on Vegemite in Victorian prisons does not breach his human rights. [1]

McKechnie, serving a life sentence for the stabbing murder of property developer Otto Kuhne, argued the ban prevented him from enjoying Australian culture. Justice Claire Harris found the prohibition proportionate to security and safety concerns. [1]
