Bitcoin Core updates security policy as AI makes bugs easier to find

Bitcoin Core will now release fixes for easily discoverable vulnerabilities across all supported versions as soon as possible, rather than delaying disclosure.
Bitcoin Core has updated its security policy to release fixes for vulnerabilities that can be discovered with minimal effort, such as through a simple LLM prompt, across all maintained major versions as soon as possible, accompanied by security advisories. The change was proposed by developer Antoine Poinsot and merged on Thursday. [1] [2]
Previously, low-severity flaws were disclosed two weeks after the next major version, while medium and high ones remained under embargo until two weeks after the last affected version reached end of life. The policy shift follows increased AI-generated vulnerability reports, including nearly 5,000 findings across 390 projects by the Bitcoin Red Team in late July. [1] [2]
