Yemen conflict escalates as Houthi fighters' deaths strain families
Briefing by News4U · First published
Al Jazeera reports that funerals for Houthi fighters have become frequent in Sanaa, with the Yemeni government stating its forces killed or wounded 1,540 Houthis in 24 hours earlier this month and 16,100 since October 5. Houthis killed more than 70 government soldiers in an October 19 missile attack in Shabwa. Families of the deceased receive irregular food baskets and limited support, while petrol and diesel prices have risen 10 percent in Houthi-controlled areas, worsening economic hardship. The World Food Programme says 18.3 million people face severe food insecurity and 2.2 million children under five suffer acute malnutrition. [1]
