Meta defends AI smart glasses privacy features amid misuse concerns

Briefing by News4U · First published

Meta says its AI smart glasses include built-in privacy protections and benefit blind users, despite reports of misuse and bans.

Meta vice president Maxine Williams told RTÉ Business that the AI smart glasses have a hardwired LED warning light and anti-tampering measures to protect privacy, while also helping blind and low-vision users with daily tasks. [1]

Williams said photos stay on the device unless users ask the AI a question, and users can now opt out of image use for model training; she acknowledged bans by courts, offices and restaurants. [1]
