Antisemitism envoy proposes external ombudsman for ABC and SBS Israel coverage
Briefing by News4U · First published
The Guardian reported that federal antisemitism envoy Jillian Segal proposed an external independent ombudsman to monitor ABC and SBS coverage of the war in Gaza and the Middle East, arguing that concerns about subjective, inaccurate and disproportionate reporting made greater oversight in the public interest. Segal also recommended enforceable conditions on arts organisations and universities to limit antisemitic speech or activism, and said modern “progressive” antisemitism was now the most pervasive form in Australia.
