Hong Kong Q3 GDP rises 5.2 pct, but benefits to residents questioned
Briefing by News4U · First published
RFI Chinese reported that Hong Kong’s third-quarter GDP rose 5.2 percent year-on-year, beating expectations and marking the fastest first-nine-month growth in five years. The government attributed the expansion to strong global AI investment and a buoyant financial sector. Exports of goods surged 30.4 percent and imports 29.9 percent, while fixed capital formation increased 7.3 percent. However, private consumption growth slowed to 2.8 percent, unemployment reached 155,000 people (3.9 percent), and October’s PMI edged up only to 50.2. Commentators warned that the gains largely reflect re-exports and may not translate into broad-based benefits for residents or small businesses. [1]
