Virgin Media O2 to cut thousands of jobs and halt fibre rollout
Briefing by News4U · First published
Virgin Media O2, jointly owned by Liberty Global and Telefónica, will cut around 30% of its people costs, potentially affecting up to 25% of its 16,000 workforce, and halt full-fibre rollout beyond existing commitments as it seeks £800m annual savings by 2029. The company is also exploring wholesale access to BT’s Openreach network to expand coverage from 19m to 25m homes. Most job losses will come from non-customer-facing roles, with increased use of AI in customer service, network planning and fault management. Chief executive Lutz Schüler said the measures are necessary for future success. [1] [2]
