Binance hit by record $6.3B crypto hack, vows to cover losses
Briefing by News4U · First published
Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, said hackers stole about $6.3 billion across ten blockchains in roughly 20 minutes on Thursday, the largest crypto theft on record. The company suspended withdrawals, froze roughly $3 billion in stolen assets with help from blockchain partners, and pledged to cover all losses using its own funds, including $5 billion in matching tokens. Blockchain firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the attack with high confidence to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group, though Binance said its investigation has not yet assigned responsibility. Bitcoin fell to a six-week low of $76,368 and Ether dropped more than 3 percent. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
