BBC World reported that Vice-President JD Vance blamed the Iran war for Republicans losing control of the House and Senate in the midterm election, writing on X that "the reason we lost is the war" and that Trump's 2024 voters had deserted the party. Trump acknowledged the war played a factor in the defeat but said he would "do it again" to stop Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.
