Trump designates Oval Office and Cabinet Room national monument

Al Jazeera reported that United States President Donald Trump signed a proclamation designating the Oval Office, the adjacent Cabinet Room and the Outer Oval Office as a national monument to be managed by the National Park Service. The proclamation requires documentation, review and consideration of alternatives before any action that would substantially alter or demolish the monument, but does not restrict the president’s authority to redecorate or change furnishings. Trump stated the measure would prevent the rooms from being “touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people” and said the document would turn both rooms into “a landmark for the ages”.
